Leda Armchair Sculpture — Original

Leda Armchair Sculpture - Original

Design: Salvador Dalí

The Leda Armchair was designed by Salvador Dalí in the years 1935-1937 whilst he was working in collaboration with the French furniture designer Jean Michel Frank. (One imagines, by the way, that the name derives from the famous story of Leda and the swan in classical mythology and indeed the chair seems to adopt a sinuous avian form.) The chair itself is made from brass castings, subsequently welded together.

The Black Label edition of the armchair is part of a limited production run undertaken to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Dali’s death. The finish is that of an aged black patina on the cast brass. (Authenticity details: there is an identification plaque, (5x1cm) of shiny polished brass engraved:“Sillón Leda, 1935/1937, Salvador Dalí, Bd Ediciones de Diseño” with the serial number of the product affixed to the under surface of the seat.)

Finish: Polished Cast Brass Varnish
