Pattern: Klaus Haapaniemi, on Aika
Taika means ‘magic’ in Finnish, and Klaus Haapaniemi wants his illustrations to inspire your own imagination and storytelling. Combined with other essential design objects of the Iittala collection, Taika gives a magic touch to everyday life.
Taika merges folklore and architecture to create a modern world on ceramic dinnerware. Haapaniemi unveils a world of mythical creatures, animal hybrids with some human features, living within a flora and fauna based forest. Each Taika piece is hand crafted by applying silk screen print design to basic white porcelain before being glazed and fired.
Taika adds a distinctive alternative to the Iittala range, taking further the concept of mix and match. Taika is a simple way to bring a touch of magic to any home, and add a little joy to everyday life.
The design is applied for the pieces in the Taika series is that of Heikki Orvola's Aika with its classic, clean lines. To create a more varied range of dinnerware, mix pieces from both Taika and Aika collections.
By mixing Taika and other Iittala collections, you can achieve a dynamic and seasonal pallete for your tabletop. Some popular Iittala dinnerware combinations include:
- Taika and Teema
- Taika and Aika
- Teema and Origo
- Origo and Bottna
